Body Upgrades: From Sleek and Stylish to Fierce and Bold
As drivers, we may spend the vast majority of our time with our cars inside of them. But the exteriors of our vehicles continue to be important to us, primarily because their appearance often reflects on us, whether positively or negatively. Some drivers simply want to be independent and against the flow, and so they style their cars to stand out from the conformity. Other drivers just want to make certain features pop, and could care less if their Windstar or Tahoe looked like most others on the road. Whatever your reason for wanting to change up the look of your vehicle, utilizing various aftermarket body components can make a huge difference in the way your vehicle appears, both to you and to passersby.
Doors
It would be quite difficult to get in and out of your car if your vehicle had no working doors, unless you fancied climbing in and out of windows every time you drove. Car doors have traditionally opened in an in-to-out fashion, but that’s been changing as more drivers switch over to custom entry doors. Vertical doors glide open in style and are quite commonplace on luxury sports cars and other specialty vehicles with a big, fat price tag. Gullwing doors and suicide doors offer that unique style edge for anyone that doesn’t want a door that still fits traditional vehicular norms. These may not be easy upgrades to consider, but whereas you could barely squeeze out of your car in a tight parking space before, you’ll find it much simpler with a vertical door.
Spoilers
From front spoilers to rear ones, these little, aerodynamic buggers are often controversial additions to just about any car. That’s because many people see spoilers as over-the-top, unnecessary, and overcompensating. This reputation isn’t quite true to their actual effect, though they way some spoilers have been used should warrant a second look. Spoilers should improve a vehicle’s aerodynamic design without standing out like a sore thumb, and using a spoiler on a junker isn’t going to make the junker look any better. However, a properly placed, beautifully designed spoiler add-on can add some class and sporty style to many vehicles. Just watch out for anything that makes people wince when they pass by your car.
Hoods
Hoods are large, dominant features on the fronts of just about every vehicle on the road. Stock hoods can be heavy, worn out, and more, and that doesn’t make them sound (or look) to appealing. Many drivers turn to fiberglass or carbon fiber hoods for both style and functionality reasons. Fiberglass hoods are the lightest hoods available, and are super-sleek. Carbon fiber hoods are nearly as light as their fiberglass cousins, but they’re also stronger and more durable. If you want to cut some weight off your car, a lightweight hood upgrade is a great option, and a stylish one at that. |
